Just in: Pete Carroll and the Raiders now have reached agreement on a three-year deal with a fourth-year team option, sources tell ESPN.
Pete Carroll is set to become the oldest person to ever coach in an NFL game. Most remembered for coaching The Seattle Seahawks from 2010 – 2023 and leading them to a Super Bowl championship in 2014. Carroll was previously the head coach for The New York Jets and New England Patriots.
Here’s a look at how old the five oldest coaches were when they coached their final NFL game:
- Romeo Crennel, Houston Texans interim coach: 73 years, 199 days (Final game: Jan. 3, 2021)
- George Halas, Chicago Bears: 72 years, 318 days (Final game: Dec. 17, 1968)
- Marv Levy, Buffalo Bills: 72 years, 139 days (Final game: Dec. 20, 1997)
- Pete Carroll, Seattle Seahawks: 72 years, 114 days (Final game: Jan. 7, 2024)
- Bill Belichick, Patriots: 71 years, 266 days (Final game: Jan. 7, 2024)
Carroll is currently fourth on the list, but he’ll become the oldest head coach in history when he coaches his first game with the Raiders.
The new head coach will be 73 years and 358 or 359 days when he coaches Las Vegas for the first time.
